  • Is Your Conference Room Also Your Office Lunch Room?

Posted on May 4, 2012 by admin

If your conference room also functions as the office lunch room, it would be best to select chairs that will clean up nicely. Food and drink spills do happen from time to time within a lunch room, which is why fabric chairs will not work. If you spill food or drink on a fabric chair, removing the stains from chair will be difficult. The chair is going to look dirty and old.

Instead of fabric chairs, we would recommend using chairs that are upholstered in black leather.  Leather can be wiped clean removing food and drink.  We would recommend a mesh chair.  Mesh is stain resistant and extremely durable.  Both chairs are offered in high or mid back lengths. Prices will vary depending on style.

  • Which Size Table Would Work Best For Your Conference Room?

Posted on April 19, 2012 by admin

When selecting the right size conference table for your room, you will need to address to two important factors. How many people do I need to accommodate seating for around the table and how large is the conference room?

The rule of thumb for determining how many people can fit at a conference table is quite simple. Add one person for each foot. For example, a 10 ft conference table can accommodate 10 people. Four people can sit on either side of the table and then one person on each end of table.

Now that you have figured out the best size table to meet your seating needs, here comes the difficult part. Will the table fit in the room comfortably? You do not want a table that is too large for a space. How do you gage whether the table will fit comfortably? There is a trick to answer this question. Take the dimensions of the room. Then subtract the length of the table from room length. Also subtract the width of the table from room width. You want to have 6 feet of space between table edge and wall on all sides of table. If your dimensions are 6 ft or more than your table will fit very comfortably. If dimensions are 5 ft this should be okay for the space. However, if less than 5 ft you may wish to select either a round table or sacrifice seating and go with smaller table.

  • Are Buffet Tables Really Necessary in a Conference Room?

Posted on March 30, 2012 by admin

Buffet side tables are absolutely essential when designing a large conference room. Meetings with clients are quite often conducted over lunch. When entertaining clients within the office, it is important to have a buffet table to set up food, servicing utensils, napkins, and condiments. The buffet table will de-clutter usable work space on the conference table and keep messes to a minimum.

The buffet table is also great for setting up a coffee/tea station. Co-workers and clients alike will be able to enjoy a nice cup of coffee while in their meetings.

If you already have a conference table, check to see if there is a matching buffet table. Usually conference furniture is designed as a set with matching buffet table, filing cabinets, and presentation boards. This will eliminate the guess work of matching the right stain. If conference table does not have a matching buffet table, we recommend asking for stain samples of buffet tables you think might work. That way you can compare the stain sample against the table to see if the buffet table will work within your conference room.

  • Presentation Boards Help Visual Learners

Posted on February 22, 2012 by admin

According to Charles Smith, author of “Sensory Learning Styles”, 60% of people are visual learners.  That means there is a good chance that the majority of your employees and coworkers are also visual learners.  Visual learners prefer to see how things are done rather than just talk about them.

Presentation boards in conference rooms are a great tool to help relate to your visual learners.  If you have goals or ideas that need to be communicated to your team, write them down for all to see on the presentation board.  Your team will be able to more effectively process the information you provided and stay focused on the task at hand.

Presentation boards can also be used to create story boards for your organization.  You can visually plan the coming fiscal year or next few months by posting relevant information on the bullet board wall of the presentation board.  Presentation boards can help you see the directional path of your organization and keep you and your team focused.

  • What Type of Furniture are Generation Y Buying?

Posted on February 15, 2012 by admin

Trendy new start-up companies run by Generation Yers are looking for conference furniture that is a bit more edgy. Unlike the Baby Boomers and Generation X, these folks do not want to play it safe with black leather chairs.  They want to show a bit of their personality.  After all, this generation grew up with being able to customize everything from their laptop to their phones.  Why not their furniture as well?

Instead of traditional black leather chairs, they are choosing to go with mesh.  Mesh chairs are known for their contemporary look.  Our mesh computer chairs have been a popular favorite.  The mesh computer chair is a two toned chair.  The padded seat cushion is black, however the mesh back is offered in purple, blue, green, and orange.   Companies are buying these multicolor chairs to add personality to their conference rooms instead of painting the conference room walls.

We are also noticing that this group of Gen Yers is selecting mocha and constellation java table tops over the traditional cherry and mahogany finishes.  The Mocha 12’ boat-shaped table with pre-cut grommet holes is one of our best selling conference tables.

Both the mesh computer chairs and boat-shaped conference table have some traditional lines but the materials and colors used make them more contemporary in design.  As more of Generation Y enters the work force, we can expect conference furniture to become more customizable with a variety of color and fabric options.

  • What's the Best Size Table for our Conference Room?

Posted on January 2, 2012 by admin

When planning out your conference room it is important to select the correct size table for your room dimensions while keeping in mind the number of people needed to be seated . The ideal table for 4 or 5 people is a 48-inch round, because at that size everyone can equally be in engaged in the conversation.  It is the perfect table to maintain ongoing communication without anyone feeling isolated.  The CDA-R84LS and 4R8491S showcased below are good examples of 48” round conference tables.

For a bigger gathering, a rectangular table works best.  For 6-8 people, try a 10’ rectangular table such as the 10 ft Boat-Shaped Conference Table - 021CTC-MAH.  We would recommend staying under 48” W so people can talk comfortably across the table.

For larger gatherings of 8 or more people, stick to tables that are 12’ to 18’ range.  May we suggest the 41 TMC-MAH 14 ft boat-shaped conference table?  You might also wish to add surface power modules in these larger tables so that workers have multiple data sources to plug in their computers.

  • Designing a Conference Room for Small Office

Posted on December 15, 2011 by admin

When office space is limited, that can make it hard to create an effective conference room.  Lack of office space can force small business owners to conduct their meetings outside the office at nearby restaurants.  This is not the ideal option.

Even though space is limited, there are ways to utilize every square inch of space to transform previously unusable space into a functional, tidy conference area.  Below are steps on how to transform a small office space into a functional conference area.

Step 1: Clear away all clutter.  Make sure to clean out as much items as possible such as file boxes, old office equipment that is no longer used, tired looking furniture, etc.  Save all hardcopy files on your hard drive or rent a storage space to store old archived files.

Step 2: Paint the conference room a cheery color.  A fresh coat of paint can clean up a space from dingy to new.   Try painting a soothing color such as blue or green.  If you do not have a room to dedicate to just a conference room, define the conference area with an accent wall.  Paint that one wall a different color from the rest of the walls.  That way the conference area becomes distinguishable.

Step 3: Take measurements of the space designated for the conference area.  This will help when selecting furniture.

Step 4: Select a conference table that is to scale for the space allotted, preferably a small round table like the 47 1/4" Round Meeting Table - 968-LV-ESP.  The 47 1/4” round meeting table’s contemporary design of having the leg posts towards the outside creates plenty of leg room and also allows chairs to be pushed all the way in when not in use.  The table becomes a space saver and functions as an extra work station for an employee when not in use as a conference table.

Step 5: Select chairs that work with your small circular table such as Mesh Chair - 5126B.  Go with armless chairs that are less bulky and can be pushed all the way in when not in use.

Step 6: If there is room left over, add a tall filing cabinet to organize documents or setup a buffet table for coffee, tea, and water.  Then sit back and admire your new tidy functional conference area.
